LEGO Technic
LEGO Technic is a separate product line started in 1977 as the "Expert Builder Series". It uses a completely different building system from classic LEGO: beams with holes instead of bricks with studs, pins and axles for connections, and complex mechanical elements like gears and hydraulic cylinders.
What sets Technic apart
- Building blocks are beams with cross-axle holes (no studs)
- Working mechanics: gearboxes, suspension, motorised engines, hydraulic arms
- Often optional motorisation via Power Functions or Powered Up
- Realistic scale models — Lamborghini Sián, Bugatti Chiron, McLaren P1
Top sets
- 42083 Bugatti Chiron (2018) — working W16 engine
- 42115 Lamborghini Sián (2020) — 8-speed manual gearbox
- 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3 (2022) — 3778 pieces
- 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover (2024)
Compatible with System?
Not directly — Technic beams lack standard studs. But specific connector parts (like 1×4 plates with pin holes) let you mix both systems.
