Spare parts

Spare parts (officially "extra parts") are additional copies of small, easy-to-lose pieces LEGO ships on top of the actual set. A set may contain more physical pieces than the building instructions list.

Which parts get spares?

Mostly small, easily-lost pieces: 1×1 plates, small round tiles, Technic pins, lightweight clips. Usually 1-3 spare copies per piece type. No spares of large or complex parts.

Why this causes confusion

Sites count differently:

• LEGO's official piece count: only parts the instructions need
• Brickset's total: build inventory + spares
• Our PDF parser: only the parts-list page, so no spares

That's why you sometimes see 1516 vs 1546 vs 1809 for the same set — different sources count different things.

Where Lakea uses this

We show LEGO's official piece count (from the instructions). The extra spares are a nice bonus but we don't track them separately on the set page.
