POOP — Pieces Out Of Other Parts
POOP stands for Pieces Out Of Other Parts — an AFOL term for LEGO parts that could in principle be assembled from smaller bricks but which LEGO ships as a single pre-moulded piece.
Why AFOLs dislike them
The whole LEGO principle is that you build. A POOP skips that: you get a complete wing, chassis or wall as one piece. For the manufacturer it saves design and assembly steps; for the builder it feels like a broken promise.
Notable examples
- Star Wars X-wing wings (old versions) — one plastic piece instead of built from Technic + plates
- Car chassis plates — some City and Speed Champions sets use one-piece chassis
- Friends façades — sometimes a single moulded front wall
- Bionicle parts — pretty much the entire Bionicle theme is POOP per orthodox AFOLs
- BURPs and LURPs — effectively specialised POOPs for rock formations
Arguments for POOPs
LEGO's defence: a well-formed POOP part makes sets more accessible to younger children, reduces frustration and keeps prices affordable. For 8-year-olds, a pre-formed wing often beats a build they don't understand.
Current trend
Since ~2015 TLG recognises the AFOL audience matters. Recent Adult sets (Icons, UCS, Modular Buildings) use POOPs sparingly. The Millennium Falcon 75192, for instance, has brick-built wings and cockpit, no POOPs.
